ABOUT US

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Applied Maths.
The company is made up of a group of individuals passionate about these subjects, from backgrounds in industry, academia and youth education. We came together to form this company to address the serious gaps which exist in these areas of the education system (recognised as one of the world’s greatest educational challenges), the widening shortfall of highly qualified science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) graduates, and to plug the gap in the market for appropriate, innovative, commercially viable solutions.

We also collaborate with a number of organisations on content development, design, evaluation and more, including leading third level institutes, SFI centres, education centres, and more. Meet our partners.

STEAM Education Ltd is a registered company (Company No: 542836) operating as a not-for-profit social enterprise.

WHAT

The vision of STEAM Education Ltd is to inspire our young children to become the future generation of Scientists, Technologists, Engineers, Artists and Mathematicians. We develop and deliver innovative, fun, engaging educational resources in these subject areas for successful education, primarily in primary schools.

Research indicates that the optimum age for engagement with STEM subjects is between 9 and 13 years. This is when a child’s curiosity about the world they live is most active. There is a natural fascination with what makes their world turn and how everyday things work. This, coupled with a limitless imagination, can lead them into an exciting world of discovery and learning.

We put real-life experts in primary classrooms week after week during the academic year, with specially designed tools & content for each lesson, to co-teach with the primary teacher. This connects industry and third level institutions with schools to disseminate knowledge and leverage the capacity of our experts to enhance the education of our children and the capacity of our primary teachers.

WHERE

The registered office is 2.29 GATEWAYUCC, Technology Transfer Unit, Western Gateway Building, Western Road, Cork. We were founded and are based in Cork and currently operating in schools in Cork, Dublin, Louth, and Meath. Coming soon to the rest of the country!

WHEN

STEAM Education was founded in 2014, when we piloted our 25-lesson science programme in 21 6th classes in 17 primary schools in Dublin, Cork and Galway. During this pilot we engaged with over 450 children aged 10-13, 17 primary teachers and principals, and 15 scientists. We received very positive feedback from all involved, and reviewed, adjusted and improved the programme for maximum enjoyment and enhanced learning outcomes for the kids and teachers alike, following the recommendations of participants. The programme expanded to include more schools in 2015-16 and again in 2016-17.

Check out children from a participating school engaging with the lessons through fun activities.
